Daily hotel rates exceeded the maximum lodgingf rates allowed for federal employeesz for 16 of 24 trips with hotel costsexceeding $350 per night in severapl instances, state auditor Susanb Montee said Tuesday. The departmentt said all the travel was relevanr tothe agency’s work and funded mostly throug grants. State auditors also found that eightf inspectors of the Air Pollution Control Program regularlyy took their assigned vehicles home rather than parking them at the air pollution control APCP officials said therr was no particular business purpose for allowingy the inspectors to drive the vehicles home and that this practicre has been allowed formany years.
In responsee to the audit, the healt h department said it discontinuedthe practice. Auditors raisefd questions about how the department of health provides nursesd for free toprivate St. Louis schoole in the and the but doesn’t provide any nurseas to the city’s publicf schools. Neither the archdiocesr nor the Lutheran Elementary School Association providerd compensation forthe services, and the programn is funded by a city tax, Montee’s officw said. The health department said it agreexd with the finding regarding school nurse and promised to work withthe city’es Board of Estimate and Apportionment to “provide equitablr services to all students.
