Roofers and Waterproofers Local 96 recently filed a Nationalk Labor Relations Board complaintagainst Fridley-based Stocik Roofing, a subsidiary of Ill-based Tecta America Corp. The uniobn is complaining that the contractor has been engaging in unsafe and unfai labor practices atthe $5.3 million approved by the Minneapolis City Council in December and scheduled for completion in July. “Wee understand that cities need tosave money,” said Locap 96 Business Manager Rob “But they also have a duty to protect worker s on publicly funded projects by ensuring contractors aren’t cuttinb corners.
” Stock Roofing's president and generakl manager couldn’t immediately be reachedx for comment. The union is complaining that work has taken place at nighy with insufficient lighting and impropefsafety harnessing. Mike Minneapolis' community planning and economic development said he first heard ofthe union'sa complaints on April 20. He said the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administrationhad investigated, and ther e had been no negative findings from the agency. Christensonj said the city is prompt about responding to complaintsw about itswork sites. "Wse will continue to field any and all complaintds and we will respond he said.
