The PSC’s decision is a compromise to AT&T’s request that it no longeer deliver the phone booksto AT&T Florida told the PSC that eliminating the automatixc distribution of the residential whitde pages is “an environmentally greehn endeavor and a cost saving and that providing a paper copy of the director is “an inefficient use of resources in thesee touch economic times.” But commissioners also were worried about how it might impact customers’ abilityt to access information, said PSC Spokeswomajn Kirsten Olsen. Instead of doing away with the rule commissioners agreed to give it atria run, during which time it will gathed customer feedback.
“Today’s decision allows the PSC to asses the practicality of discontinuing printed residentialdirectoryh delivery, while continuing to provide directories to customer who want a copy,” PSC Chairman Mattheew M. Carter II said in a news As part ofthe agreement, AT&T must put a toll-freee number on the cover of the Yellow Pages that directs people to call if they want a Whitwe Pages. The directory will stil l be provided for free to those whorequest it. AT&T Floridz would not disclose just how much money the waiver will citing confidentiality, according to its requesyt to the PSC.
