Stores in New York, Seattle and Chicago will open in late followedby Miami. The San Carlos, Calif.-basesd electric car company said it is also scoutingf locations in Torontoand Washington, D.C. Tesla’s first European stored is scheduled to open in London laterrthis month, followed by locations in Munic h and Monaco. The new stores join Tesla's locationsw in Los Angeles andMenlo Park, Calif. The company is celebratingt the one-year anniversary of opening its first store witha 60-mile road rally from West L.A. to Malibuj that it said will include severall dozen Tesla owners and their Teslaproduces high-performance electric vehicles with a fully electricd power train.
The company says its which hasa 0-to-60p mph acceleration of 3.9 seconds and a base price of $101,50 after a federal tax credit, is the only highway-capablew production electric vehicle for sale in Northb America or Europe. The companty won a 2009 Globe Award for environmentao sustainability and Tesla expects to begin producingan zero-emission Model S sedan in late 2011. Tesla's Web site says its core beliefd isthat "an electric car need not be a drivingt sacrifice." Tesla on Wednesday said it had delivered its 500th Roadster and has 1,000 reservations for its Model S electri c sedan.
