The foundation’s Development Education Initiativerawarded $16.5 million to Connecticut, Florida, Texas and Virginia, as well as communitty colleges in each A community college in Nortyh Carolina also received funding. The initiativw seeks to support programs that help students enrolled in remedialprogramsz — so-called refresher courses for students who are not up to grad level in a given subject. The goal is to improve classroom performance so students can go on to take advancer courses and eventually graduate with a degreeor certificate.
The state of Ohio was awarded $300,0009 over a three-year period to develop a new performance-basedf funding system that rewards communituy colleges for helping students complete remedialand college-leveol courses. The foundation also said it’zs awarding $743,000 over three yearzs to each of the following fiveOhio schools: , , , and .
